HS and Honor Choir
Course Description: The group will focus on vocal production and performance. The high school group will participate in the Basin Music Festival in the fall. They will compete with the area schools at the OMEA music festival in the spring. They will present two concerts through the course of the year. An honor choir will be chosen from the high school group. This ensemble will represent the school at community clubs, functions and churches throughout the Basin.
Grading: The students will be graded primarily on performance. Their performance grade will include any performances, scheduled in advance, when the choir is required to attend. Twenty percent of their grade will be determined by participation points. Each student will be awarded between 1-5 participation points per day based on the following scale:
5 = Actively participating, attention given to teacher when asked
4 = Actively participating, reminder necessary to direct attention to teacher
3 = Participating, time spent talking with peers when teacher is working with your section
2 = Participating, excessive talking
1 = Some Participating, excessive talking, poor attitude, struggling with correction
0 = Rude, constantly disruptive behavior
Objectives:
• The students will become more efficient sight readers.
• The students will learn proper breathing and vocalization techniques.
• The students will learn proper stage presence so as not to deter from the worship experience of the Church.
• The students will learn to appreciate different styles of music.
• The students will strive to be a proper representation of Hosanna Christian School, but more importantly of Christ.
